Summary: | This paper highlights some similarities and differences in the patterns of industrial linkages between Korea and Western industrialised countries. Two aspects of linkage patterns are examined with particular reference to engineering and chemical plants in Taejon and Cheongju: the degree of local industrial linkages and the impact on the spatial patterns of industrial linkage of the organisation. Although the findings of the analysis are limited in scope to Korea, they suggest that substantial modifications must be made to Western ideas and experiences in the context of linkage studies in developing countries. |
