Description
Summary:Criticisms of the social work profession's move toward empirical clinical practice (ECP) presented in Stanley Witkin's "Empirical Clinical Practice: A Critical Analysis" (see SOPODA 13:1/91W12784) are questioned. Tenets of ECP questioned by Witkin include the use of alternatives to proven social work interventions & of single-system or group research methods. In Empirical Clinical Practice or Witkin's Revised Views: Which Is the Issue?, Witkin (U of Vermont, Burlington) counters the alleged superiority of ECP in the areas of objectivity, accountability, & ethics. He concludes that all approaches to research & practice must be open to criticism of their methods as well as their core assumptions & values. 25 References. L. Dorn
