Summary: | The extent to which social workers are trained to understand the significance of socioeconomic factors that contribute to poverty & to treat the consequences of poverty is examined, based on statistical data from Canada & developing countries in the southern hemisphere. The analysis indicates increased poverty in both the North & the South, though the manifestations differ in scope & intensity. It is concluded that the issue of poverty should occupy a more significant place in the education & training programs of social workers in both developed & developing countries. 30 References.
