Summary: | Visionaries play an important role in the founding of pilgrimage centers & the related devotional movements in the Christian world. Here, visionaries' lives are examined after that formative stage, using the case of Medjugorje, Bosnia Herzegovina, where children allegedly began to see the Virgin Mary in 1981. The formerly young children have turned into entrepreneurs in religious goods & services. Therewith they have become competitors of the clerical leaders of the movements, the local parish priests. The power process that has unfolded between them is described. Suggestions are offered for further, cross-cultural research on the subject. 26 References. Adapted from the source document. |
