Description
Summary:From fieldwork among converts to mystical Islam, members of the Idrissiyya Ahmadiyya brotherhood, we try to show that mystical conversion combines beliefs of an individual interacting with experiences of the community. It is therefore, a typical example of religious modernity but also a socio-religious protest, especially through recurring references to the thought of Rene Guenon, a philosopher converted to Sufism. Based in France & Italy this brotherhood is also very active in the public & political spheres. We intend to study the links between a mystical commitment & various political engagements. This type of action attests to a will of participation in States representational processes & for the leadership of the European Moslem community. In conclusion, two types of action are proposed to qualify the work of intellectuals converted to Islam in Europe. Adapted from the source document.
