Summary: | The text is structured around four conjectures. The Mauthausen Conjecture propounds that the mechanisms which unleashed the atrocities of the 20th century are still in force & ready to operate again. The Guantanamo Conjecture states that present-day democracies are undercover dictatorships. The Azaustre Conjecture explains the loss of common sense & the upsurge of idealism as a result of the spread of literacy. And the Galileo Conjecture declares that the paradigm of history as a linear & official author's account will be superseded by network-constructed history. The final part is devoted to the so-called collective or historical memory, personal memory & the "magic" of successful interviews. Adapted from the source document. |
