Summary: | For this contribution to "Reflections on the Work of Feminist Theorist Jean Baker Miller," Greenwood & Zeedyk asked four younger women to read Toward a New Psychology of Women (1986 [1976]) & then join them in a conversation about the relevance of Miller's book today. They addressed the question: "How would young women of today respond to the ideas put forward by Miller over 30 years ago?" Like Miller's sample, these women were all white, heterosexual, & from working- or middle-class backgrounds. They were surprised to find themselves reflected in Miller's book, dismayed to learn that 30 years had not brought as much change in women's situations as they had expected. Miller's account of women's struggle to confront gender subordination "reverberated down through the years & off the pages," & thus is relevant in many ways today. Many of these young women's comments are quoted here. References. S. Stanton |
