Summary: | The Multi-Dimensional Model of Hispano Attachment to and Loss of Land developed by Yoly Zentella (2009) is viewed here from the standpoint of sociology. It is an important contribution to the study of ethnic populations in their relation to land, space and territory. Elements of sociological approaches to space are discussed. Three pathways for further research on the basis of Zentella's model are suggested: the study of possibilities of collective subjectivity, identity and social movement formation; the study of heterogeneous constitution of space by multiple populations; and the study of issues of justice and reconciliation. These pathways broadly reflect interest in the political and power outcomes of the emotional sphere. The commentary concludes with a consideration of process-event-oriented methodology for further research. |
