Summary:The AIDS pandemic and access to care for those infected with HIV was a major focus of the 57th World Health Assembly, which met in May, which also considered issues such as the growing problem of obesity and diet-related diseases. Among other issues under consideration during the assembly was the possibility of worldwide eradication of poliomyelitis and dracunculiasis, or guinea-worm disease, within two years.
