Summary:Abnormalities of the ear and hearing are well recognized in Turner's syndrome (TS), which is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities. Presented here are the preliminary data from a UK study of the audiological features of 113 women over the age of 16 years with TS. Seventeen per cent had normal hearing, 19% had conductive or mixed loss, and 47% had sensorineural hearing loss associated with the TS. The results are discussed with reference to previously published studies and to the lack of consensus on comparative definitional terms in audiology. Sumario Las alteraciones del oído y de la audición han sido bien identificadas en el síndrome de Turner (TS), que es una de las anormalidades cromosómicas más comunes. Aquí se presenta la información preliminar de un estudio sobre los rasgos audiológicos de 113 mujeres con TS y con edades por encima de los 16 años, realizado en el Reino Unido. El 17% de ellas tenían audición normal, un 19% tenía hipoacusias conductivas o mixtas, y un 47% tenía una hipoacusia sensorineural asociada al TS. Se discuten los resultados en relación con estudios previamente publicados, y sobre la falta de consenso en cuanto a definiciones comparativas en audiología.
