Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on F-18 FDG Positron Emission Tomography
A 67-year-old woman underwent fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) as staging for squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue base. FDG PET showed moderate FDG accumulation within the lung bases correlating with honeycomb fibrosis on CT, in keeping with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis....

Summary: | A 67-year-old woman underwent fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) as staging for squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue base. FDG PET showed moderate FDG accumulation within the lung bases correlating with honeycomb fibrosis on CT, in keeping with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. When diffuse pulmonary uptake is seen on FDG PET imaging, nonneoplastic causes should be considered. |
