Summary:Abstract We report on the case of a 19-year-old Hispanic male with metabolic syndrome who developed a myocardial infarction after an uneventful appendectomy. To our knowledge, this is the first published report of a young adult with metabolic syndrome suffering a major cardiac event after a simple abdominal surgical procedure. It raises the question as to how to prevent such complications in the future.
