Summary: | Adrenomedullin (AM) is a 52-amino acid peptide with a pluripotential activity. AM is expressed in many tissues throughout the body, and plays a critical role in several diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and renal disorders, among others. While AM is a protective agent against cardiovascular disorders, it behaves as a stimulating factor in other pathologies such as cancer and diabetes. Therefore, AM is a new and promising target for the development of molecules which, through their ability to regulate AM levels, could be used in the treatment of these pathologies. |
