Description
Summary:Recurrent retropharyngeal abscess with recurrent thyroiditis is a very unusual clinical presentation in adults. Pyriform sinus fistula due to congenital fourth branchial arch anomaly may explain this presentation. In this paper, an adult with recurrent retropharyngeal abscess and thyroiditis due to fourth branchial arch anomaly and pyriform sinus fistula was reported with special emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of this condition. A 28-year-old female patient was referred to our department with high fever, sore throat, dysphagia, odynophagia, dyspnea, and painful mass in the left neck lasting for 3 days. The patient stated that she had experienced 2 similar episodes, 1 month and 15 years ago respectively, and surgical drainage under general anesthesia was performed. She denied any foreign body ingestion. http://www.entnet.org/journal/casereports/OTO-15.pdf/
