Summary: | What a radical target! Two key hydrogen‐atom adducts of 1‐methylcytosine have been prepared by the targeted chemical generation of cytosine radicals. Femtosecond collisional transfer of electrons to gas‐phase tautomers of protonated 1‐methylcytosine using molecular electron donors (dimethyl disulfide and trimethylamine) produces stable radical adducts with the hydrogen atoms positioned at N3 and C5 of the cytosine ring, respectively. |
