Summary: | [...]allografts have been used for primary ACL reconstruction [4], and also to reconstruct the posterior cruciate ligament [5], medial collateral ligament [6], lateral collateral ligament [7], and the extensor mechanism of the knee [8].2 Antigenicity and infection The majority of the antigeneic load of tendon allograft tissue is from the cellular component, and transplanted fresh tendon allografts can incite a marked inflammatory and rejection response [9]. The main concern in the primary ACL reconstruction, however, seems to be over the slower remodelling of allograft tissue, with the potential for subsequent stretching or rupture of the graft. [...]although their use can be recommended, caution with post-operative rehabilitation regimes and return to full sporting activities would seem wise. |
