[...]96% of the responders following the old course considered the specialty central to the entire field of medicine, expressed by a score of 4 or 5, whereas only 49% of the students following the new course shared that opinion (Fig. 1A). Whether the future recruitment of medical students into pathology will be lowered as a consequence of the new study program cannot be predicted with certainty from the present study, but the available data suggest that the number of graduates seeking pathology as a first choice may be reduced.
