Summary:Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors can improve cardiovascular outcome in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Myocardial diastolic function (Ve) is a known marker of cardiovascular prognosis. It could potentially indicate the effects of preventive therapy if evaluated by tissue Doppler. We tested the hypothesis that treatment with the ACE inhibitor ramipril has beneficial effects on Ve. In this study, 16 subjects on insulin therapy (eight receiving 10 mg ramipril/day compared to eight matched controls who were not treated with an ACE inhibitor) were followed up for a period of nine months.
