Electrocardiographic inscription of diaphragmatic contractions during anaesthesia

Summary An electrocardiographic artifact was noted on a child under general anaesthesia. The artifact was caused by rhythmic diaphragmatic contractions. A systematic approach to distinguish an artifact from a cardiac electrophysiological event is presented.
