Summary:The military services employ pediatricians primarily to care for the children of active-duty service people. Military pediatric training programs provide enlisted physicians-in-training with the pediatric experience required for board certifications. Chelsea Naval Base in Boston, MA, started the first military pediatrics program in 1946, and 65 pediatric residents currently graduate each year from nine military training programs.
