Description
Summary:Splenorenal venous shunt is a type of portosystemic shunt usually observed in patients with portal hypertension, mesenteric adhesion due to prior surgery, and abdominal trauma. Congenital splenorenal venous shunt is extremely rare, and only four cases of congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt were reported in the English literature, one of which was a splenorenal venous shunt. In all of these previously reported cases, the shunt was diagnosed at a relatively older age, when the patients developed symptoms and signs of portosystemic encephalopathy. We report a case of splenorenal shunt detected by fetal sonography and confirmed by autopsy and specimen angiography after spontaneous abortion.
