Summary: | Video display terminal (VDT) use is growing in schools, and this requires renewed awareness of their potential for radiation, ergonomic, and stress effects. Electromagnetic radiation from VDTs are generally at safe levels, yet students should not sit closer than 18 inches to the screens or spend more than 20 hours a week at computers. Visual fatigue, especially eye strain, and musculoskeletal complaints can become common if proper measures are not taken. Workers who spend long hours relatively stationary performing repetitive tasks are at risk for higher stress. |
