Summary: | Persistent pain in the superior portion of the right sacroiliac joint developed in a male hurdler with a long history of intermittent low back pain. Clinical examination localized the origin of the pain to the upper right sacroiliac joint. The pain was unrelieved by rest or medication. Planar and SPECT bone scans showed localized increased tracer activity at the superior portion of the right sacroiliac joint. A pelvic CT done the next day showed bilateral osteophytic spurs and subchondral sclerosis at the sacroiliac joints. An osteophyte at the right superior sacroiliac joint had fractured. |
