Description
Summary:To describe cancer incidence and mortality rates, risk factors, and some of the cancer screening and control programs for the Asian American population. Medline, National Cancer Institute publications, textbooks, and census data. Progress has been made but much needs to be done in cancer prevention and control to lessen the cancer burden among Asian Americans. The diversity of this population requires a variety of strategies to influence cancer screening and control. Health professionals need to understand how Asian cultures perceive health, diseases, and treatments. While efforts should be made to provide correct information about cancer screening and control measures, respect for different beliefs, values, and perceptions must be conveyed to build trust.
