Prevalence of cytomegalovirus in nonrheumatic stenotic aortic valves

Cytomegalovirus can be detected in nonrheumatic stenotic aortic valves; however, the prevalence in age-matched, nondiseased control valves is significantly lower. These data, therefore, do nto suport a pathogenic involvement of cytomegalovirus in degenerative aortic stenosis.
