Summary:Herman-Giddens et al summarize the consistencies and contradictions among some of the newer communications, address misconceptions and misinterpretations of the Pediatric Research in Office Settings (PROS) data, and identify legitimate points of disagreement and areas for additional investigation is presented. Results show the rise and fall of the age onset of secondary sexual characteristics, the attainment of gonadal maturation, and the age of complete sexual maturity may serve as the canary in the mine for environmental problems just as height and weight indices already do in individual cultures and countries.
