Description
Summary:A 72-year-old man with a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic renal insufficiency with bilateral nephrostomy tubes, and prostate cancer underwent an adenosine Tc-99m tetrofosmin myocardial perfusion study as a preoperative evaluation. Perfusion imaging did not show myocardial ischemia. However, a planar projection image of the chest demonstrated a focal area of increased uptake in the anterior mediastinum. Computed tomography (CT) of the chest demonstrated a 4-cm anterior mediastinal mass. CT guided biopsy of the mass confirmed an epithelial tumor, the differential diagnosis of which included thymoma or carcinoid.
