Temporal changes of IgG avidity were examined in six patients with primary HCV infection. The avidity index was low in the acute phase of the infection and then increased with time. These results suggest that the avidity assay for IgG anti‐HCV is a useful method for distinguishing primary HCV infection from chronic or past HCV infection. J. Med.
