Plasma concentrations of asymmetric dimethylarginine are increased in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Increased risk of coronary heart disease in patients with type 2 diabetes cannot be accounted for by differences in conventional risk factors. This study demonstrates that plasma concentrations of asymmetric dimethylarginine, an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase, are increased in patient...

Description
Summary:Increased risk of coronary heart disease in patients with type 2 diabetes cannot be accounted for by differences in conventional risk factors. This study demonstrates that plasma concentrations of asymmetric dimethylarginine, an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase, are increased in patients with type 2 diabetes, thereby identifying a new and potentially important coronary heart disease risk factor in this patient population.
