Summary: | Many patients (33%) with dilated cardiomyopathy and syncope receive appropriate defibrillator therapy at follow-up, although inappropriate therapy for supraventricular arrhythmias is also often noted in these patients. Results of this study strongly support the need for implatable cardioverter-defibrillator implation in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy and syncope, even in the setting of anegative electrophsiologic evaluation, althoug hefforts to modify programming or the selection of dual-chamber systems are suggested to optimize device function and avoid unnecessary treatment of superventricular arrhythmias. |
