Summary:Five hundred and fifty four strains of S. aureus isolated between 1990 to 1999 from patients with clinical infections were selected from three centres in Caracas, Venezuela. A total of 401 (81.4%) of the isolates were resistant to methicillin, 534 (96.4%) were resistant to penicillin. All isolates were fully susceptible to vancomycin.
