Summary: | The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study (NGHS) examined a biracial cohort for biological, behavioral, psychosocial, and sociologic correlates of obesity development during adolescence. The longitudinal data showed that pubertal maturation was associated with a significant gain in adiposity for both whites and blacks with the largest increases occurring at the initiation of pubertal maturation and at menarche. |
