Further Immunohistochemical Evidence for Impaired NO Signaling in the Hypothalamus of Depressed Patients

: The cellular expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) was studied in neurons of the Nuc. suprachiasmaticus (SCN) of depressed patients and matched controls. The number of NOS‐immunoreactive SCN neurons was significantly reduced in depression. We conclude that affective disorders are accompanied b...

Description
Summary:: The cellular expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) was studied in neurons of the Nuc. suprachiasmaticus (SCN) of depressed patients and matched controls. The number of NOS‐immunoreactive SCN neurons was significantly reduced in depression. We conclude that affective disorders are accompanied by impaired hypothalamic NO signaling.
