Summary: | N‐Arylation in water! A simple and highly efficient protocol for the N‐arylation of imidazoles with aryl halides in water catalyzed by a sulfonato–Cu(salen) complex (see scheme) has been developed. This novel strategy requires only mild reaction conditions and has excellent functional‐group tolerance. The water‐soluble catalyst can be recovered easily and reused at least three times without obvious detriment to the catalytic abilities. |
