Summary:The buildup dynamics of the average output power, as well as the output spectrum, of a homogeneously broadened continuous-wave Ti-sapphire laser were investigated. It was found that the average output power of the laser exhibits relaxation oscillation behavior initially and approaches the steady-state value in about 20 microsec, while the buildup time to the steady state for the spectrum is 500 microsec. A simple physical model is presented which qualitatively explains the two different time scales. (I.S.)
