Summary:This review discusses the many types of dental materials. Corrosion and toxicity are important issued in regards to alloy prosthetics. Ceramics such as porcelain are also used in the manufacture of dental materials, with fracture strength and failure important properties being studied. Bond strength and stress analysis are mentioned when discussing removable prosthodontics. Dental implants are often fabricated using more than one materials, as is the case in the example given of titanium-reinforced expanded polytetrafluoroethylene implant membrane. Frequently, biocompatibility is the number one issue with regards to dental materials.
