Description
Summary:The frequency of tolerance in 13 strains of Staphylococcus aureus was examined .using two media (MHB and BHI broth) and two methods (broth dilution and time-kill curves). In broth dilution tests, tolerance was found more frequently in MHB than BHI; a similar, but much smaller effect was noted in time-kill curves. There were also discrepancies (with both BHI and MHB) between the two methods of testing as to whether a strain was called tolerant. The significance of these technical variations will probably require correlation with clinical studies to determine the most useful methods of testing for tolerance.
