Summary: | The major purpose of this paper was to provide an example of how unit cost analysis might be used in planning for a health occupations program. The author provides a brief overview of the systems approach to the decision making process, describing some of the more important components such as effectiveness, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and a more definitive description of unit cost analysis. The paper is based on an actual feasibility study that was conducted to prioritize two allied health programs identified for initiating a community college consortium in East-Central Illinois. The author was functioning as facilitator of the consortium and was required to identify the most feasible of the two allied health programs to implement in the consortium. Unit cost analysis was used in the decision making process to help identify the program having the lowest operating expense. |
