Summary:Hypoglycemic activity-guided fraction led to the isolation of the known compound, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, from Pandanus odorus Ridl. (Thai name: Toei-hom, Pandanaceae). This compound showed a hypoglycemic effect in normal rats after the oral administration of 5 mg/kg. Additionally, the compound increased serum insulin levels and liver glycogen content in normal rats.
