Summary: | McNeil et al fully agree in Burton et al's recent Policy Forum, which states that phase III trials alone are required to establish the efficacy of HIV vaccines. However, McNeil et al disagree with the position of the authors regarding their sponsorship of a recently initiated HIV vaccine efficacy trial in Thailand. They detail the initiation of the phase III efficacy trial of a combination vaccine regimen, referred to as "prime-boost," in Thailand and conclude that the ongoing prime-boost trial is scientifically justified, morally correct, and strategically important. |
