Summary:The study of communication networks has interesting parallels both with conventional epidemiology and with the ability of ecosystems to handle disturbances. In striking contrast with the usual models, a recent study found no threshold for epidemic spread: Within the observed topology of the Internet and the World Wide Web, viruses can spread even when infection probabilities are vanishingly small.
