Description
Summary:Open Blueprint from IBM is used as a framework for discussing recent developments in communications with particular emphasis on multiprotocol networking. At the networking layers, it illustrates the protocol choices and multiprotocol networking solutions in the marketplace today. Each of these alternatives has strengths and weaknesses that can be magnified or reduced by any given situation. A typical network today will have a variety of protocols and often a variety of multiprotocol solutions. Much has been learned to prepare for the ultimate multiprotocol challenge: multimedia. As the Open Blueprint evolves to embrace tomorrow's multimedia standards, the industry can anticipate multimedia application programs in the higher layers of the blueprint, signaling their connection quality of service requirements across enhanced APIs.
