Summary: | Sulfonation of prefluorinated PE films is studied as a tool allowing the development of mosaic (multiplet) surface structures containing fluorinated and sulfonated fragments of macromolecules. The mathematical model of this process is elaborated. This model takes into account the main differences in sulfonation of fluorinated and initial polymers. On condition that all other conditions are the same, the calculations make it possible to advance an approximated equation for the description of changes in the degree of sulfonation of the fluorinated film as a function of the duration of sulfonation. The results calculated through the proposed equation are shown to agree with the experimental data. The specific features of the morphological changes in the surface layer of fluorinated PE that are due to sulfonation are studied by electron microscopy. |
