Summary:Ecological aspects of the dynamics of middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius) expansion in the Lower Volga region were investigated. The data show that D. medius has formed stable populations in the vast northwestern part of the Lower Volga region, where its distribution is continuous and abundance is comparable to that in the central part of the species range.
