Description
Summary:Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment manufacturers are required to provide functional patient-operator communication throughout the diagnostic procedure. This is accomplished with a patient intercom. Due to the nature of the operation of an MRI scanner, a great deal of noise is created. In early generation MRI scanners, the noise was low enough in magnitude to allow a patient in distress to alert the operator using the intercom. Recent advances in MRI techniques have resulted in the creation of much faster and more powerful, however noisier procedures. As a result, the patient-operator intercom alone has become inadequate to insure patient safety. This project evaluated methods to enhance functionality of the intercom and implemented a system improving communication.
