Model coil development and testing for ITER

The ITER project will build two model coils which are approximately the scale of the coils in the large-coil-project (LCP) built during the 1980s. The central solenoid model coil has a peak field strength of 13 T in a 1.6 m bore, and the toroidal field model coil 9.7 T in a 1.4 m × 2.8 m bore when o...

Description
Summary:The ITER project will build two model coils which are approximately the scale of the coils in the large-coil-project (LCP) built during the 1980s. The central solenoid model coil has a peak field strength of 13 T in a 1.6 m bore, and the toroidal field model coil 9.7 T in a 1.4 m × 2.8 m bore when operated together with the EU LCP coil. The coils will be tested in facilities at Naka, Japan, and Karlsruhe, Germany, when completed in 1997.
