Summary: | A formal representation of nerve spike trains in the form of a sum of rectangular functions is proposed. This formal instantaneous frequency function can be Fourier analyzed. The resulting algorithm has the useful properties of spike by spike calculations and an insensitivity to the mean (carrier) spike rate. The technique is also useful for producing a smooth (filtered) reconstruction of a spike train. |
