Description
Summary:A review of laboratory and field studies, and results of controlled laboratory exposures and gas-chromatographic analysis by the authors, show that the organophosphate pesticide fenitrothion has a relatively low uptake and a relatively high excretion rate constant and, therefore, a low accumulation coefficient in clams and mussels. It is suggested that concentrations of fenitrothion in water of about 001 mg per litre or less are not likely to result in significant contamination, although, because of the persistence of the insecticide in sediments, an accidental spill may cause considerable contamination.
