Summary: | The activities of some key enzymes of the secondary metabolism in cell suspension cultures of two Humulus lupulus cultivars, namely a Verticillium albo-atrum susceptible ('Hallertauer Mittelfrueh') and a resistant cultivar ('Wye Target'), were measured under normal growth conditions and after the addition of a culture filtrate of the fungus V. albo-atrum as elicitor. A marked change was observed upon elicitation in the phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity found for 'Wye Target', being almost 2-3 times higher than the control during the first hours after elicitation. |
