Description
Summary:Trischosporon species are emerging opportunistic yeasts in neutropenic patients with underlying hematological malignancies. We report two observations of invasive trichosporonosis diagnosed at the Parasitology and Mycology Laboratory of Sfax University Hospital (South of Tunisia). The first case had an acute myeloid leukemia and a persistent fever despite the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. The second case had anaemia with resistant fever to antibiotics. Trichosporon asahii was isolated from blood cultures in the two cases. Antifungal therapy with amphotericin B was initiated but the evolution was fatal. Trichosporonosis is a rare but potentially highly aggressive infection with a bad prognosis among immunosuppressed patients despite antifungal therapy.
